![]() If it was not for the Oregon Trail, many of the western states would not be or even look like they do today. It helped to move the population westward from the overpopulated East. The Oregon Trail helped to change how the United States grew. If someone got sick or hurt, the mother was expected to get them better. ![]() Women usually gathered fuel from plains, cooked, cleaned, sewed, looked after children, fed chickens, gathered eggs, tended vegetable gardens, milked cows, got water from wells, plowed, and most of all did all of the doctoring in the family.
